Review: Cinder

Cinder Cinder by Marissa Meyer
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was a re-read for me. I read this book when it first came out and always wanted a copy for myself. My sweet fiancé got me the boxed set and I was so excited to read this again! It definitely held up to the magic I remembered. This is a fantasy, sci-fi, fairy tale all rolled up together. I adore this book and am so glad I get to read the rest of the series!

Cinder is a sixteen year old orphan, cyborg, and genius mechanic. She lives with her step mother and her two daughters but only the youngest, Peony, treats Cinder like family. Her step father died not long after adopting her and she doesn't remember much about him but her step mother never lets her forget that she blames Cinder for his death.

They live in the future in New Beijing in the Commonwealth. Prince Kai hears about Cinder's reputation and brings his personal android to her booth in town to have it fixed by the best mechanic in the Commonwealth. He expects an old man but finds a beautiful girl instead. Cinder is mortified that the Prince has shown up at her booth and tries to hide her cyborg parts.

The Blue Plague has been showing up more and more all over the world ever since the first Lunars arrived from the moon. There is no cure and it does not discriminate. Prince Kai is determined to discover a cure and heads a project to find and fund it. While checking on his project he keeps running into Cinder and finds himself opening up to her. How much can he truly trust her?
