Review: Compulsion
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I loved this book. When I first started reading I went in without many expectations and the beginning was a whirlwind. I think that was the right way to write it too. This is a book about a girl not only finding out about her family history but finding herself. I know a lot of people are skeptical about someone falling in love quickly and that's okay but it really does happen. Usually when you least expect it and in the most awkward times. I found the characters to be fun and personal. There is a great magic element to the story with a curse and magical gifts each distributed differently between the three main families that are the focus of the book. I loved the very realistic Southern charm woven through out the story.
Barrie finds herself having to leave her home in California to live with her aunt she didn't know existed in South Carolina after her mother's death. Her mother didn't tell her much of anything about her family growing up and when she arrives she finds more questions than answers. Barrie tries to see the best in everyone to a fault. She finds more than just secrets and magic on the island with a neighbor named Eight and a cousin who stops every eye that she walks by.
This is a series I will definitely be continuing!
